I believe that all children are able to succeed, but each has a unique way of meeting their goal. Some students require extra support in certain areas, some need material presented in a variety of ways, and some are able to rise to challenges beyond their peers’ level. My job is to use the tools available to reach all of my students to ensure their success.
The tools I believe have the biggest impact are:
- Technology – I incorporate technology into many of my lessons. From various resources and websites, to allowing students choice in how they show mastery of learning, technology resources can have a huge impact on student learning.
- Accommodations – An accommodation is a tool used to put a student on a level playing field with their peers.
- Hands-on learning – Students tend to retain more information when using more than just their eyes and ears to experience the lesson.
- Choice – When a student directs their own learning, they have ownership and pride in their work.
- Safety – A student will not be able to learn until their basic needs are met, this includes feeling safe in their learning environment.
